The Kowal_MetaOg module provides advanced management of Open Graph data in your Magento 2 store. With it, you gain full control over how links to products, categories, and CMS pages appear in social media such as Facebook, Messenger, Twitter (X), LinkedIn, or WhatsApp.

What is Open Graph?

Open Graph (OG) is a set of meta tags that inform social platforms about the content of a page. They allow you to define, among other things, the title, description, content type, image, and even language – so that the shared link looks attractive and encourages clicks.

Why use OG in Magento?

  • Increased click-through rate (CTR): eye-catching links on social media generate more visits.
  • Better product presentation: automatic or manual definition of the description, title, and image for each page.
  • SEO enhancement: OG supports positioning by improving the interaction rate.
  • Compatibility with popular platforms: works with Facebook, Twitter (X), LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and others.

Supported page types

  • Product pages – automatically reading the name, description, and image or the option for individual configuration.
  • Category pages – support for OG title, description, and the option to use the category image as a banner or just as an OG image.
  • CMS pages – ability to add an OG description and image without altering the template code.

Main features of the module

  • Manual editing of OG data: title, description, image
  • Fallback to global settings from the configuration panel
  • Integration with Magento UI system in the admin panel
  • Secure validation and error handling
  • Compatibility with any Magento theme

Additional information

  • Module compatible with Magento 2.3.x – 2.4.x

Questions and Answers

Question
Does the module allow automatic addition of Open Graph (OG) meta tags for products, categories, and CMS pages in a Magento 2 store?
Answer
Yes — the module allows you to set OG meta tags (e.g., og:title, og:description, og:image) and other social media tags for products, categories, and CMS pages, which makes store links shared on social media more appealing.
Question
Can I set default OG images and descriptions that will be used if a product or page does not have an individual image or description assigned?
Answer
Yes — a good OG module allows you to set default values (fallbacks) for og:image or og:description tags, which will be used when the corresponding value is not available. Although not all details are provided publicly in the store description, this is a typical function
Question
Does installing the module require modifying Magento core files or the store theme?
Answer
As a rule, no — the module works as an extension compatible with the Magento 2 architecture and should not require overwriting base system files. However, it is worth checking the module documentation to see whether there are any special requirements regarding the theme or integrations.
Question
Does the module work with multiple stores/views (multi-store / multi-view) in Magento 2?
Answer
Yes — the OG extension should support multi-store environments, allowing you to set different OG tag values for different stores or languages. To be completely sure, it is worth checking the module’s compatibility with your specific installation.
Question
Can properly setting OG meta tags affect the number of clicks and engagement on social media?
Answer
Yes — properly configured OG tags improve the appearance of a link preview on social media (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) — a better-highlighted image, relevant title, and description can increase the click-through rate (CTR) and generate more traffic.
Question
Does the module also support social tags other than OG, such as Twitter Cards?
Answer
Although not all OG modules always support this, extensions from the marketplace often also offer support for Twitter Cards or other social meta tag formats. It is worth checking the module documentation to see whether this functionality is available.
Question
Can I manually set an image other than the main product image as the value for og:image?
Answer
Yes — advanced OG modules allow you to specify a specific attribute or alternative image to use in the og:image meta tag, letting you customize how the link appears on social media.
Question
Does the module only add tags in the page header, or does it also support, for example, JSON-LD or other data structures for social media?
Answer
For this specific module, the description focuses on OG meta tags (“Better Visibility on Social Media”), so the main function is support for OG tags. If you need support for JSON-LD or other structures, it is worth checking the documentation to see if they are available.
Question
Does configuring the module require programming knowledge or code editing?
Answer
No — installation and basic configuration are typically performed from the Magento 2 admin panel, without the need to write code or edit templates. This allows you to focus on marketing settings.
Question
Do I receive technical support and updates after purchasing the module?
Answer
Yes — the manufacturer provides free updates and technical support for its modules.
